Hey Everyone, I was thinking about the oil industry and the concerns some have in relation to environmental issues and I wanted to see if there was a way to make them safer and increase efficiency. I was thinking of a redesign for Pipelines to add an additional layer overtop of the pipeline, this second casing would catch any oil that could leak to not only save the environment but also ensure no loss of product. The inner layer would be the main line and it would carry oil as usual and the second coating would be sealed as well and have pressure sensors along its run to alert the company if a spill in the main line occurs. This way they can dispatch a team to fix the pipeline and avoid any environmental concerns or fines. This would only require a slight change to the current procedures but it would also allow for greater efficiency and cost savings for the companies as they would avoid clean up costs or fines and ensure full supply reaches the refineries. This was a thought I was having and wanted to share to see if we can make pipelines safer and increase efficiency for the companies and refineries.
