I was reading a news report that indicated dozens of Somali Men have disappeared or been murdered in Western Canada. Like the Missing Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls cases we require a task force for them and for the Missing Somali Peoples in Canada and around the world. Somali people are kind and loving individuals looking to make a life in our nation and abroad to escape a civil war that rages across the planet. They come here seeking safety and to build a new life and are at times faced with unequal landscapes. It's time to stand for the Somali Community and the Indigenous Missing to determine what happened and what we can do to improve quality of life for Somali Canadians and indigenous peoples across our planet and globe. Considering Somali peoples are technically indigenous they would as well be protected by the UN declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). As such we need to have commissions established to review the missing cases and assign detectives to solve these missing cases. I am hopeful that we can come together as nations and nationals and protect the most vulnerable amongst us. The time is now to be heroes for one another and answer the call of our shared humanity.
