Hey Everyone, I am writing to you today to discuss the Migrant Worker Program across the planet. Many times during the summer months individuals from other nations gain temporary work visas to help those nations in the agricultural and other sectors. I was reading a news report that talked about migrant worker conditions and how at times they are not provided with an adequate standard of living while in their host country. It indicated that at times the housing was insufficient and they had to work long hours without proper food and some even equated it to "slavery". There have also been some recent deaths on farms that has led to an outcry among activists. In our nation and others these events where we welcome migrant workers are "first impressions" from us to the world and especially the migrant workers nation. These must therefore represent our nation and its flag and other nations with the utmost decorum and respect for their rights and safety. This speaks to who we are as a people and nations and we must ensure that the same freedoms and rights are enjoyed by all who live, work and visit our nations. We therefore need to take an in depth look at these programs and ensure that we not only have a national standard but an international one as well. We need to ensure proper housing, food security, employment rights as well as leisure time so that the visiting member can experience our nations in their proper condition. As such we need to look into regulating these programs federally and then internationally so that we can ensure workers safety while here and uphold the morality of our nations. I propose that we launch a commission to investigate these concerns and reach out to the workers to gain an understanding of what we can do to improve the lives of those who help keep our nation's running. This is about who we are in the face of such events, are we beholden to coin or do we live in conscience? "Rights are just words without actions to defend them" John Ames Birch @johneames2
