Hey everyone,

I was reading a story about a moose that was starving. The story talked about how the Zoo ended the creature instead of saving it.

How we treat those weaker than ourselves speaks directly to our humanity. Our humanity is the soul of who we are both personally and collectively.

In how we treat animals we reaffirm and classify either our humanity or our inhumanity. During this time, when we are standing for one another we can not leave a single soul behind.

We need to ensure that every animal within our care or in the wild is shown the same respect we afford one another.

It’s not simply enough to feed them and house them but we must ensure the best quality of life and the utmost respect for end of life.

As the indigenous people’s can affirm, animals are sacred. They like us, have feelings and families and this must not be taken lightly. Within each of us, two legged, or four legged, there lies a spirit calling to us as brothers and sisters alike.

Every single pet owner knows this to be true and for many when we welcome an animal into our home we welcome them into our family. We are all family no matter who or what we are and if we do not have respect for animal life we diminish the respect for human life by proxy.

This is why we need to teach the importance of life and respect for life early on to instill humanity within us as we grow.

It’s time to see one another and animal kind for what we are, souls searching for a better life. It’s time to look at life and it’s sanctity again to ensure that no one is left behind.

Stay Safe, Stay Sanitized and Stay Supportive,

John Ames Birch
