Pandemic Response

Subject: Pandemic Response

Hello Everyone, I hope everyone is doing ok during this tragic time. I am writing you today as I have been thinking about the pandemic how it will change our daily lives and ways to combat the virus whilst still operating the country and our businesses day to day. As follows are some ideas to help us continue while being contained: Food Industry - The food industry is being hit hard as people stay home and restaurants and bars shutter their doors to this pandemic.

  • Restaurants and bars can use their websites to sell their recipes and contact their suppliers to then ship out the ingredients to their customers. The food is delivered in clean and sanitized boxes and the customer can then proceed to cook the food themselves.

  • Grocery stores - With many especially the elderly afraid to visit public spaces we could start food delivery programs. They can email or call in their orders and the products are shipped in clean and sanitized shipments to the consumer.

  • Take out / corner stores - For smaller mom and pop shops they can still help perhaps by being the call in centres for the grocery stores so that they can get a small tip for each order to help them stay afloat.

Business

  • Business is the easiest on this list as most places can transition to phone or internet paradigms. Utilizing the cellular hubs telecom companies should open up free wifi/data to help struggling Canadians operate under the pandemic allowing both nation and national to continue to operate.

  • For those that are unable to conduct business as usual then financial assistance might be required at this time.

  • Manufacturing - Companies can delay their import/export schedule in a staggered approach to allow their skeleton crews time to complete the tasks needed on an emergency basis and those needed to keep our country afloat.

  • For any business that operates they would need to adopt virus containment procedures, gloves and masks and such to limit any accidental spread whilst still conducting what is needed to keep the world going.

  • Air Travel - Airlines and trains hard hit by this should be repurposed for fright and food delivery nationwide. The government can hire them to ship food and goods to where it is needed and they can easily implement sanitation procedures to ensure that the food / goods are delivered quickly and directly to the cities that need it with minimal stops.

  • Trucking industry - Drivers would implement full virus procedures and would ship goods to smaller towns and cities after being delivered by the airlines.

  • Religious gathering - During times like this we need our belief and so I think services should be held online or even broadcast on television so people can still worship as they deserve.

  • Schools and education - Schools can start to offer class materials online and telecommunications via Skype or phone to help students while they still are able to learn during this time.

  • Travel during and after - I think that we will need permanent virus procedures when dealing with immigration and emigration. There should be containment and testing procedures from all flights to and from places with viral outbreaks. If we can flag these with the border agencies then we can treat the patient before any virus can spread. The border agencies and the countries medical systems can work in tandem to diagnose and sterilize any infections in real time to ensure that we always stay ahead of any pathogen. If we can implement this globally we can reduce or eliminate any further infections from this or any other virus.

  • Medical - This pandemic has shown how underfunded the worlds hospital system is, the spread of the virus could have been contained if we had more services and more personnel dedicated to viral and pathogen outbreaks. We need to implement more funding and better diagnosis techniques across the globe to ensure that no pandemic gets the better of us.

  • Currency - Money is a weak spot when it comes to virus containment, giving and receiving change is a transmission vector for any virus. We should use debit or credit whenever possible to limit any spread of the virus.

These are just a few of the ideas that I had while thinking about this pandemic and I'm sure that there are more options to help. I think if we stand together during this time we will get through this time as a people. I hope everyone will be ok during this time but if you see someone in need of help we must stand together for one another. Stay Safe, Stay Sanitized and stay supportive, have a nice day. Thank you, John Ames Birch @johneames2
