As I am currently homeless I have direct visibility on the current crisis. I have noticed that many elderly and disabled people are homeless. This in my opinion is a travesty because it violates the Charter and can even be considered discrinatory. I was watching a man the other day at lunch struggling to open a sugar pack with a hook arm and missing fingers. I feel so much respect for his struggle but he should not have to struggle without hands. I am therefore hoping we can start a project with the War Amps to fit each person with a prosthetic. I have seen many with missing limbs and fingers and feel a sense of danger for them. Homelesness is hard, everyday tasks become monumental and a lack of appendages only exhaserbates their plight. I am therefore hoping that we can start looking for options for those with missing limbs. Perhaps we can start crowdsourcing initiatives to fund these programs. Furthermore, I have noticed many people who are in need of doctors as they appear to have social and mental health concerns. Perhaps we can start an outreach program wherein doctors visit with at risk homeless individuals to determine their needs. What I have seen this far in my time homeless is a society with cracks in its tenements. People who have fallen down and need help to rise again. We all fall at times, we may stumble and lose our way but we must be the light for one another. We must stand when all others have fallen and we must remember that each one of us are someone's son, daughter, mother, father, grandparent and friends. No matter the situation, no matter the battle, we must remember that together we are far stronger than apart. We must help one another no matter our own struggles so that together one day we will stand together as one. "Rise and rise again, until lambs become lions".
