Hey Everyone, I have been reading reports about the situation in Afghanistan and the fact that women are being told to stay home and being precluded from secondary education. There is this myth that has propagated for generations amongst our people, this myth that women are somehow inferior to men, they are not. They are no better, or worse, just different. This myth limits the potential of our people as we remove the contributions that might have been discovered by them. Without women we would not have Kevlar vests, better life rafts or the fire escape amongst other great contributions. Without these people, these women, uncounted legions of people would have died without these life saving inventions. When you deny a group of people the ability to learn and discover, you limit the potential of everyone. There are many things that women can do to help further society as a whole. Perhaps Afghanistan can review post secondary education options for women so that they may better help the nation in which they live. At times women feel more comfortable with women doctors so they should be allowed to at least seek degrees in reproductive and female medicine. Additionally, women make great nurses, educators, pilots, chefs, engineers, scientists and theologians among other great endeavors. They are a great resource to help improve your nation. I promise that if you see the worth in women you will help strengthen your nation with each degree and with each woman. If you allow women to seek opportunities then the opportunities for the men will be expanded. For example, if you have them study as doctors and nurses they can help in emergency situations where everyone needs to contribute. Additionally, having a number of extra engineers around will be a continued benefit for agriculture, development and engineering products like aqueducts to help bring fresh water to your cities. I understand that women already play an important role in your society but their worth is far more than one thing. If you allow them to seek higher education then you will be expanding the potential of your nation. I humbly ask that you consider my words and hope that one day I can see both men and women in higher education. To the women of the world I say this, you are wonderful. You are strong, smart and savvy. Believe in yourselves and stand together through whatever may come your way. Be leaders in your homes and communities, help where you can and how and strive to improve upon what came before to make a better world for women everywhere. You can achieve whatever you put your mind to, please ensure that you raise your daughters to know their worth and raise your sons to understand that worth.
