Hey Everyone, I was thinking of ways of helping Venice combat the rise of sea levels as its essentially a man made island city. I was thinking of ways to help stabilize the land and keep it above the water level and I have a few ideas. I researched how the palm tree islands were made in Dubai and it was Dutch and Belgian contractors if I am not mistaken who were able to build an island a layer at a time. I was therefore thinking a similar process can be started to create a base under the city to essentially create a man made island underneath to better support the buildings and keep the water where they want it to go. Perhaps they can create a connected plate of metal or concrete to ensure everything remains level and stable and then they can create the island below by adding more and more dirt and sediment and compacting it to form a stable base. This will allow the city to raise itself if needed to combat raising water levels or sinking supports and can be added to in future if the need arises. This was a thought I was having and wanted to see if we can work together to better preserve Venice for future generations.
