Hey Everyone, I have been reading stories about the BC Old Growth protests that are occuring that have evolved into the largest act of civil disobedience in Canadian History. People are trying to stand for the future of this planet and I understand where they are coming from. We are currently in the greatest ecological crisis in recorded history, a time where our co2 levels increase exponentially each day. As we know trees filter out CO2 and emit oxygen through the process of Photosynthesis. Old growth trees are known to be some of the greatest co2 absorbers out there. As such if we continue to cut down old growth forests and clear cut trees we will never reach our climate goals. What I feel is that we adopt a new procedure for logging moving forwards. I've said it prior but Bamboo is one of the greatest carbon sinks they have discovered and many varieties grow feet per day. As such if you start bamboo farms you will be able to harvest in weeks as opposed to generations. This bamboo can then be treated and formed into any type of wood product that we need and it's more fire resistant that regular wood. Bamboo is useful for a number of things besides lumber and building materials and it will allow the logging companies to diversify their portfolios and industry as a whole. If we can shift our focus to sustainable agriculture and development while instituting carbon capture methods we will reach our goals. Finally, bamboo forests can help us achieve our climate goals simply by planting forests all around the world. If countries added this to their carbon capture techniques we will not only reach our climate goals but surpass them. As such if we can review these options with the lumber industry it would be greatly appreciated. Stay Safe,.
