Subject: Racism and Reaction Time. (Opinion)

Hey Everyone,

I was reading about how one of the officers involved in the recent racial injustice "tried to object" to the officers kneeling on the neck of their charge. It talked about how he was a rookie and was trying to speak to his training officers about helping the victim.

I understand that he was a rookie but let it be known that you do not try to intervene, you intervene. I don't care if its your first day on the job or your last. You place yourselves physically between the racist officer and the victim or you follow your duty to uphold the law and you arrest the officer breaking their societal duty to protect all people equally.

No more will the excuses of the past be accepted, racism is ending and its up to each of us to stand for that better world in every aspect of our lives. Racism does affect you, inequality is everyone's problem and injustice is a cancer to everything we hold dear. Its everyone's duty to call out racism and to stand against inequality in the loudest fashion possible.

No more will we keep racism hidden behind platitudes or profit, we will stand for those most vulnerable within our society until there are no vulnerable people within our society. We will change hearts, we will change minds and we will change institutions, to ensure that the morality of the human spirit is paramount. Where with each action, we eliminate inequality wherever it may hide, in subtle glances or jokes, in policy and procedure and in thought and speech.

I will no longer live in a world where good men and women fear for their lives or live a life that is unequal to mine and everyone else's. I have a dream as well, a dream to see the dream of those that came before made real. A world where the legacy of all those institutions of humanity like Rosa Parks, MLK, Harvey Milk, Alice Paul and all others is made into a beautiful future for all our people.

It is time, it is time to stand for those who throughout our history have stood for all of us, each battle, each time they stood for human rights and human dignity, they stood for all of us. Its now time to return that favor, make good on those long stalled promises and make an equal world for all humankind. A world where it matters not what you look like, what religion you believe in or which gender you love but a world free from the hatred an bigotry that eats away at our society like a cancer.

It is time to heal our society and the only way to heal such a wound of injustice is to ensure that we all become Paragons of Justice. Its time to stand together as one and fix the long standing inequality that has stifled the potential of the human race. It is time to dream again and to turn those dreams back into reality for all of us, and build better tomorrows together. It is time to stand and it is time to march, marching hand in hand no matter our color into the united and equal world each of us deserves.

Stay Safe, Stay Sanitized and Stay Supportive,

John Ames Birch
