Hey Everyone, I am writing to you today to discuss MMIWG ribbons that were removed from an honor site in the City of Calgary. The story talked about how these were carelessly thrown in the garbage after being removed and it was a dishonor to all the MMIWG throughout history. As such I was thinking that we need a system in place to check prior to removing any mural or symbol to honor the lost. Perhaps we can create a database that allows them to determine what can be removed and when so that we do not come into a similar impasse in the future. Furthermore, the epidemic of MMIWG needs to be addressed more in our media and supported in finding justice for these families. Many of these are sitting as cold cases and as such I think that we need to have a new task force created to investigate these cold cases and bring the killers to justice. Far too long the cries for justice have fallen on deaf ears and it's time that we honor all those lost to hate or indifference. I therefore ask that a new task force be created to investigate these crimes and bring justice to their families. This task force will be composed of officers from around the nation who will pool resources and focus on solving these cases. They would work directly with the families and the indigenous nations to protect them moving forwards and solve any crime that targets indigenous peoples. This in my humble opinion will be a great step on the road to reconciliation. Stay Safe, Stay Sanitized and Stay Supportive, John Ames Birch @johneames2
