Hey everyone, I was reading a story that talked about migrant workers needing vaccines. The story also talked about how some are unaware of support programs and resources open to them as they have a language barrier. Finally, the story talked about undocumented workers who have come into the country illegally. The story talked about how they cant access healthcare or vaccines. I was therefore thinking of ways to help everyone in this situation. Firstly, I think that we need to have a system in place to have migrant workers vaccinated prior to leaving their home country. Alternatively, we should work with them upon arrival to ensure they are vaccinated. Secondly, we need to have a oversight system in place to ensure migrant workers are protected. This starts with communication so I propose that each migrant worker be given a temporary smartphone loaded with apps in their language. This will help them to stay organized, allow them a way to communicate with family and the phone would have apps like duolingo to help them learn English and French. This will also allow you to create an app that spells out their rights and responsibilities while in our nation. This will also allow them the opportunity to relay working and living conditions to the government if they are being taken advantage of. Finally, in relation to undocumented individuals we should look into ways to help them seek citizenship. I realize they may be in the nation in contravention of normal procedures but we should still help them. Perhaps we can open up clinics that allow people to receive medical care without documentation. This will allow us to ensure their quality of life and help them seek permanent residence status. We should also explore new citizenship paths to reduce undocumented individuals by allowing them more avenues to seek legitimate residency.
