Hello everyone, I was reading about how Europe is facing shortages of beds and staff to combat this second wave of the virus. To that end I have a few ideas that I hope will help. In relation to the bed shortages I suggest we use dentist chairs or massage beds to temporarily increase our bed counts. In relation to the staff shortages I suggest we start hiring civilians. We can hire them and train them on the job. You can create teams one doctor, one nurse and one student with a number of civilians. The doctor can be the team lead while the nurse and student supervises and trains the civilians for certification. Additionally I would feel it prudent to create an abbreviated EMR course specifically designed for the pandemic. You can then have them take side courses after the pandemic is over to match current requirements. In the short term these options might help increase the amount of health care professionals to combat this surge. Additionally I would work with immigration and ask any immigrant with medical training to help until this crisis is over. Stay safe, stay sanitized and stay supportive, John Ames Birch @johneames2
