Hello Everyone, I was reading the story about the grocery store workers dying and for the immediate future I think a new procedure or combination thereof might help. We should consult with our leaders and medical professionals to determine viability but I propose:
Pick Up Orders:
You can have your cashiers and staff answer phone lines for phone in or email orders:
The Order is received by staff who confirm list, availability, alternatives if needed and price.
Payment can be taken via online cc or through on site outside where they pick up their orders.
The stockpeople would then fill the list using ppe gear and assemble the order in a sanitized grocery cart.
the cart would be labelled with a barcode that can be read to determine if payment made and contact details of the person receiving the order.
The representative would confirm ID of customer or of contact (with password or alternative method)
The customer would open the car door and the order would be placed inside as the customer is paying (If applicable).
The customer would close the car and drive off fully supplied and the personnel would not touch the car to limit cross contamination and the order would have been picked by personnel using gloves and masks.
This would limit internal traffic and still allow markets and such to operate.
Few points to consider:
The order takers would never share phones or materials, keep everything as digital as possible.
The order pickers health would be checked every shift to ensure no transmission between workers and customers and vice versa with these measures.
The online order system should automatically be set to print orders for a backup in case system fails or info needed for corporate etc.
The barcode system would be read using your existing tech to classify order and destination.
Shutter common areas for now to staff and reduce communal gathering until the crisis has passed.
Stagger the appointments a few every hour perhaps to reduce congestion and potential overcrowding.
These measures might need to be amended by the WHO or our leaders to ensure they will be as efficient as possible in combating the spread of the virus.
Stay Safe, Stay Sanitized and Stay Supportive,
