Hey everyone, I was reading a story about how one airline gave out bonuses to its leadership while in talks for a government bailout. In the past we have seen similar acts where companies used the bailout money to give bonuses instead of helping their workforce. This is troubling because its seemed to have sent a precedent as other companies have done this. I realize that this was an extraordinary situation due to the Pandemic but the money from the bonuses should have been used for the workers. Too often we see a dichotomy of view within companies between their workforce and leadership. There is often a disparity between pay, benefits, time off and consideration in relation to leadership. I've spoken about this prior but a company is made by the workforce not the leadership. While important to a company leadership has always been about helping the workforce make the company better. A company who puts the wellbeing of its workforce at the forefront will succeed where others have failed. This is the company culture we need to foster not one where the leadership takes from the workforce. As such I feel we need a rubric of protections to proceed any bailout. This must include a company overview, a score on how the company treats its workforce, a community involvement score showing how said company contributes to society and a report on leadership vs workforce disparity. These factors must be considered when a company asks for a bailout prior to them receiving money. If they do not meet the criteria then a plan must be in place to rectify the issues. If a company fails to uphold these conditions or uses the funds in immoral ways then the bailout is converted to a loan they must pay back.
