Subject: A change will come (Opinion)

Hey everyone,

I have been reading stories about the upcoming verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial. The story talked about how some are concerned for unrest or violence if justice isn't served.

Over the years we have stood together through the evils of racism and we are winning. All over the world social justice is beginning. A time where we look at the mistakes of the past now with a need for justice. To create a world devoid of racism or inequality. A day of true justice where it matters not the color of your skin but the content of your character.

This day is finally on the horizon thanks to institutions of humanity like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King. They preached of a new world, one where our myriad of melanin is celebrated.

We have come far from those long nights of our inhumanity but our journey is not yet done. Today racism and inequality still exist and it's up to each of us to create a better world without it.

We must stand together, we must lobby and we must peacefully march to see justice reign. This is a change long since demanded, a dream long dreamt but it will never come from violence. Violence is a tool of a past we are no longer beholden to.

Martin Luther King spoke of nonviolent protest, of looking beyond the hate we see or might feel and standing proud as one. It is to his example that we must look, no matter the result of this verdict we will endure. We will continue to enact change, to stand for one another until that dream becomes a reality.

I therefore humbly counsel restraint and non violence no matter the verdict. We must continue onwards unabated by violence staying true to the edict "liberty and justice for all".

Stand together.

"In spite of temporary victories, violence never brings permanent peace.” MLK

Stay safe, stay sanitized and stay supportive,

John Ames Birch
