During my time homeless I have seen up close this epidemic as everywhere I go people are smoking bad things in the street. This isn't cannabis they are smoking but worse substances. I have found people smoking up at train stations, bus stations, in front of homeless shelters as well as out in the street. Today at the city centre in this city, I noticed dozens of people smoking this substance in a glass bong. I have even had this smoke exhaled on me and in my path when walking. This is dangerous as today there were children present. We also need to ensure that we don't feel they those burdened by addiction. We need to be there for them to ensure we leave no people behind. Together a solution to this problem exists and it's up to each of us to discover. I know that there is no complete way to deal with such an epidemic but I feel we need to do more to combat this plague. I propose that outreach programs should be given more funding to combat this issue and we need designated smoking areas in back alleys. Additionally, we need more safe consumption rooms to monitor and detox people so they can live again. These can be monitored by cctv to send out ems if they become unresponsive. Furthermore, we need to combat addiction and ensure we build a society people don't need to escape from. Perhaps early education campaigns along with more outreach programs to both prevent addiction and resolve it when it occurs.
