Hey everyone This time of year I am always reminded about the true meaning behind sacrifice. The countless men and women who gave their lives to preserve our future and freedoms for our flags. It is in these moments of courage that we define ourselves. The moments where we disregard our own safety to secure anothers is honorable. I have seen in our history such nobility rise during our darkest times. These times where our inhumanity nearly eclipsed our humanity, saved by the courage of our forebearers. They risked their freedom, their very lives to give me the freedom to Express my thoughts without fear of death or imprisonment. These institutions of humanity, these paragons, set the example for who we were as a people and their legacies still echo in us. Despite their sacrifice, the freedoms they fought for, bled for and marched for, are still not universal. Across our beautiful planet there are still some who have never known freedom, never known kindness or independence. Many still lie in chains, hidden behind shadows and secrets. Men, women and children are held against their wills for money or monstrosity. It is each generations responsibility to preserve and expand the freedoms that we all take for granted. The freedom to live in peace, to marry which gender you were born to love, to speak your mind or be shown that you matter. These freedoms are held by most that are reading these words now, but some may never know the sweet nectar of freedom. Each of us deserves these freedoms, the ability to be who we were born to be, to know who we are by being allowed to discover it. To walk down the street or live in peace no matter our color and to most importantly have the freedom to challenge their scope to expand those freedoms for all. This is why we stand, this is why we march so that each generation will taste that nectar and protect the tree on which that fruit blooms. Each of us no matter who we are deserves these rights regardless if we are civilian or calvary. These rights, however, come with a great responsibility. The responsibility to protect and feed that tree so that its shade may expand to protect all within its reach. Many of us understand this and salute our flags in uniform. We must recognize their bravery and we in turn must learn to find our own. We must stand and we must march together to support all who stand on the front lines and all those who are unable to stand. We must band together as nation and nationals, civilians and calvary, princess and pauper to build a better and more equal world for all humankind. Remember their strength, find your own and stand so that others may discover their own hidden behind uncertainty. Stay safe, stay sanitized and stay supportive John Ames Birch @johneames2
