Hey Everyone, I have been thinking a lot about our oceans as of late and ways that we can help reclaim them and preserve them for future generations. As such I propose the Ocean Restoration Initiative, this initiative would be responsible for cleaning up the oceans as well as restoring biodiversity among ocean flora and fauna. I was thinking that we create teams of marine biologists, scientists and engineers and have them review potential issues and resolutions. There are some options for removing trash and plastic from our oceans including floating garbage cans that allow for trash to fall in the bucket and the water flows through the mesh at the bottom. There are also water skimmers that float on the ocean cleaning it up. We can also look at reviewing the ocean acidity and institute ways to mitigate the acidic environment perhaps by adding base solvents that are environmentally safe, perhaps using phytoplankton. Perhaps we can create boats and submarines that remove the co2 from the oceans and therefore help with the ocean PH level. These boats can use aeration to create a process where they pull co2 and store it through regular carbon capture methods. Furthermore, I was also thinking about the fish and fisheries and how in recent years the ocean produces less and less fish. I was therefore thinking that we can start a worldwide fisheries drive to create a number of fish per year to release them back into the oceans after consulting with ocean biologists. This will allow us the ability to refill the oceans and it will help with the fisheries industry as well as food security. Finally, I was thinking that we start an ocean reef restoration initiative that will help preserve and restore these beautiful ocean features. We can grow new sections of coral and transplant them into areas that are in need of restoration. If we work together to restore our oceans we will create a better future for our descendants and ensure food security for generations to come. As such I am hopeful that we can come together and find solutions to save our oceans. Stay Safe, Stay Sanitized and Stay Supportive, John Ames Birch @johneames2
