Hey everyone, I was reading a story about how Minnesota is thinking of bringing a bill that would remove social programs for anyone caught protesting. This is wrong. While I don't condone violence or vitriol I recognize the need for peaceful protest. This bill could easily be misused as a weapon against peaceful assembly and would unfairly target low income earners. We have not only a right but a responsibility to march for change in our society. Throughout our history these marches have edified and emboldened entire generations into activism. The freedom to march, to seek change, to evolve the standards of society is important to our democracy in so many ways. Through each march, every step takes us further towards true unification of our people. When people peacefully protest it means they are fighting to evolve the standards within our society and the laws that govern it. The founding fathers of the western world sought to protect this right for their descendants. Sometimes true patriotism means you have to challenge the standards of your nation and society so that they can be fair and equal. It is through times like this where we stand as one we show our society that there is something lacking. Each step we take peacefully down that road of liberty reaffirms our society and the principles they were founded upon. The freedom to march, to stand for what's right is important to the evolution of our society. It allows us to see beyond the here and now into a future where all of us can march as one.
